Copaiba is also known as Copaibo, Pau D'oleo, Canime, Panchimouti, Balsam, Maram, Caniva, Cupay, Hoepelhout, Koepajoewa, Aceite and Cabimo. It is found in most of South America, from as north as Colombia and Venezuela and as far south as Brazil and Bolivia.
Copaiba sapwood is 2-3cm wide and clearly demarcated from the heartwood, which varies from pink to red brown with copper coloured veins.
Copaiba veneer grain is usually straight or slightly interlocked, although it can be wavy and the texture is medium.
